Frequently asked questions
Does the app record when my phone is locked?
Yes. Once you tap Start, LW records in the background even when your screen is locked. You'll see a red recording indicator in the status bar and a Live Activity banner on your lock screen.
How do I mark an Amen moment without unlocking my phone?
During recording, a Live Activity banner appears on your lock screen with an Amen button. Tap it — Face ID or passcode will be required, then the moment is marked without opening the app.
What happens after I stop recording?
The audio is sent to our processing server where it's transcribed and summarised. This usually takes 2–5 minutes. You'll receive a notification when it's ready. The audio file is permanently deleted from our server immediately after processing — you can keep it on your phone or delete it.
Where is my data stored?
Everything is stored on your iPhone. Transcripts, summaries, reflection answers, Amen comments, and notes never leave your device. We have no database — we literally cannot access your data.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Living with the Word requires no account, no login, and no email address. Just download and start recording.
Can anyone else read my reflections and notes?
No. Your reflection answers, Amen comments, and notes are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to our servers. Not even we can read them.
How many recordings can I make per week?
Up to 5 recordings per week. The limit resets every Monday. Your remaining count is shown in Settings.
What are Amen moments?
When you tap Amen during a sermon, LW records the exact moment. After processing, each Amen moment shows a paraphrase of what the preacher was saying at that moment, followed by a personalised reflection question. You can add your own comments to each one.
What are reflection questions?
After each sermon is processed, LW generates 3–5 personalised questions based on the sermon content to help you apply God's Word to your life. Your answers are stored privately on your device only.
What are practical actions?
Practical actions are 2–3 specific, achievable steps you can take this week based on what the sermon covered. They're generated by AI and tied directly to the content of the sermon.
The transcription is inaccurate — what can I do?
Transcription accuracy depends on recording quality. For best results, sit within 5 rows of the speaker and keep your phone face-up on a flat surface. LW is optimised for English-language sermons.
Can I export my sessions?
Yes. Open any session → tap the share icon → Export PDF. You can also swipe left on any session in the Sessions list to export it. Exports include your personal reflections and notes from your device.
How do I delete all my data?
Go to Settings → Delete All My Data. This permanently removes everything from your device. Since nothing is stored on our servers, there is nothing else to delete.
What if I lose my phone?
Since all data is stored locally on your device, losing your phone means losing your session history. We recommend using the Export PDF feature regularly to keep backups of sessions that matter to you.
